Meet Varun

Born in Barking, East London, Varun began his cricketing journey at the age of 6 at the infamous Ilford Cricket School. Graham Gooch described him as "a smart lad who works hard at his game and has a natural eye for a ball." He developed through the Essex ranks, joined the Academy aged 13 and turned professional at 17. He captained England U19s and was the youngest debut centurion for Essex. Chopra's impressive domestic performances earned him a call-up to the England Lions squad in 2012, where he showcased his abilities on the international stage. He also captained the Warwickshire team for several seasons and led them to the first and only T20 blast title in 2014.

Off the field, Chopra is known for his professionalism and dedication to the sport. He is a role model for young cricketers and has inspired many with his performances over the years.

My Journey

From an early age I always dreamt of being a cricketer. My early memories were going to the nets with my father, playing everyday for Ilford and Essex and watching it on TV when i wasnt playing the game! I simply loved batting for hours on end, and dedicated myself to learning and implementing as much as I could.

One of the amazing features of playing professional cricket is the people you meet. Fortunately for me i was lucky enough to have been taught by and played with some of the greats of the game; Graham Gooch, Andy Flower, Allastair Cook, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Hashim Amla, Mohammd Yousuf, Ian Bell, Jonothan Trott, Chris Woakes, Ravi Bopara to name just a few! I was constantly picking their brains and learning from the best. This knowledge is what I intend to share with the next generation of cricketing stars.
